This note is to provide an update to parents/guardians of youth registered to play House League Lacrosse in Sudbury for the 2020 season. With great regret, this note is to advise of the full cancelation of the 2020 House League season. During the pandemic, the GSLA Board closely monitored our governing body of the Ontario Lacrosse Association. While there was a glimmer of hope that we would be able to host a portion of the House League Season, the OLA Board of Governors recently mandated that all activities be pushed back to June 15, 2020. This, coupled with restrictions on municipal arena rental, has effectively forced our hand (or stick) to cancel all House League activities for 2020. At this point, GSLA is monitoring the Provincial government as it relates to any further lessening of restrictions. Aligning with the OLA, who have mandated a “drop dead date” of July 1st, 2020, for the 2020 box lacrosse season, if an opportunity presents itself that Rep games can be played, the GSLA will attempt to floor teams at available levels between Tyke and Intermediate. If there is opportunity, the GSLA will notify all 2020 players to advise on try-out/practice/games. We are disappointed that we are not able to continue the progress of growing the sport in the community. The Board was excited to see an increase in sponsorship from local businesses, which would have had a positive impact on all players. Further, with an approved expansion into Senior Series Lacrosse, we were very excited to be a part of the first Senior C lacrosse team in Sudbury. We hope that this excitement and commitment for the game of lacrosse will continue into the future. Full refunds will be processed for all players. With an understanding of the volume of work on the Registrar, please be patient as this is completed. With a goal of having all refunds processed by July 1st , you will receive an email from the Registrar on the date your refund is processed. If there is a specific urgent need for refund, please contact the Registrar to discuss options. We are committed to growing the game of lacrosse in the community. While this is certainly a set back, we’re hopeful to pick (or scoop) up right where we left off. If we don’t see you this year, we hope that you will be back in the future.
Yours in Lacrosse,
B.J. Adair President- Greater Sudbury Lacrosse Association
